How to transfer data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone
Transfer data using iCloud
Please make sure that you have enough storage on your iCloud if you choose to use this method
- Open Settings on your old iPhone
- Tap on the Apple ID banner on the top
- Tap iCloud
- Tap iCloud Backup
- Enable iCloud Backup (if not enabled)
- Tap Backup Now
- After the backup is finished, move the SIM card from the old iPhone to the new one
Transfer data using macOS Catalina and Newer
This method uses the Finder app as iTunes is no longer on macOS as of Catalina
- Open Finder
- Connect your old iPhone to the mac
- Click on your iPhone on the sidebar under the locations submenu
- Click trust if you’re asked to trust the iPhone
- Tap trust on your iPhone when prompted
- Make sure to tick the checkbox for Encrypt Local Backup
- Create a password if it’s your first time setting up encrypted backups
- Click Back Up Now
- Skip Backup Apps, since they’ll be downloaded again on the new iPhone
- After the backup is complete, disconnect the old iPhone from the mac
- Move the SIM card from the old iPhone to the new one
- Connect the new iPhone to the mac
- Setup the language and Wi-Fi settings on the new iPhone
- Select Restore from Mac or PC
- Click on your new iPhone on the sidebar under the locations submenu
- Click Restore from this backup
- Select your most recent backup from the list
- Click continue
- Enter the password and click Restore
Transfer data using macOS Mojave and older or a Windows PC
- Make sure to update iTunes to the latest version
- Connect your old iPhone to the mac
- Click on the iPhone icon on the menu bar
- Click trust if you’re asked to trust the iPhone
- Tap trust on your iPhone when prompted
- Make sure to tick the checkbox for Encrypt Local Backup
- Create a password if it’s your first time setting up encrypted backups
- Click Back Up Now
- Skip Backup Apps, since they’ll be downloaded again on the new iPhone
- After the backup is complete, disconnect the old iPhone from the mac
- Move the SIM card from the old iPhone to the new one
- Connect the new iPhone to the mac
- Setup the language and Wi-Fi settings on the new iPhone

- On iTunes select the new iPhone
